We met this anemone in November of 2016 in the stretch of rocky coast between Livorno and Castiglioncello at a depth of 5.6 meters, in apnea, and given the unusual size we filmed. This sea anemone has a cylindrical body, varying in color from yellow-brown to green, from which branches off a crown of long tentacles, little retractable, with violet end. Usually reach sizes up to about 20 cm in diameter, this probably has a size of almost 30 cm.
The sea anemone belongs to the phylum Cnidaria, class of Anthozoa, subclass of Sea anemones and the order of the Attiniari.
The cnidarians name justifies the presence of cnidocysts or rather stinging cells spread throughout the body and mostly in the tentacles.
