Doride giallo - Baptodoris cinnabarina

In the stretch of sea that goes from Cagliari to Villasimius, Sardinia we met the Cinnabarina – Baptodoris cinnabarina, a specimen of yellow Nudibranchs, once very common in the shallow waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Baptodoris cinnabarina dorid nudibranch gastropod mollusk intotheblue.it

Baptodoris cinnabarina is a species of sea slug or dorid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Discodorididae. The original description was revised in 1999.

Yellow Doride Cinnabarina is a Opistobranch gastropod Mollusk belonging to the order of the Nudibranchs, to the suborder of the Doridini. The immense family of Molluschi includes types of living beings the most disparate that in common, however, have 5 characteristics: 1) a head where the mouth receptors and a radula for scrapping are located 2) a visceral region where the blood circulation system, stomach, kidneys and sexual systems are located 3) a mantle that contours the visceral region where the gills (respiration), the anus, the genital openings are located 4) an inner or outer shell or sometimes just a shell residue 5) a foot that allows you to walk.

That of the gastropods is the class of molluscs with the largest number of species, part with a robust shell (unique unlike bivalves), part with extremely reduced or completely absent shell. The opistobranchs are the gastropods with shell reduced to a minimum and in most of the absent species, whose name derives from the fact that they possess the gills for breathing in the back part of the body.

The name nudibranchi means organisms with bare gills. All the species have left the shell, they are all endowed with cephalic appendices called rhinophores that have a chemioreceptive and tactile sensory function. Like the sacoglossi all are equipped with radula but are not herbivores but exclusively carnivores. We enter the family of nudibranchs limiting ourselves to examine the most apparent aspects:

<the movement is slow, creeping;

<swimming is absent or occasionally graceful and slow, produced by the movements of the various forms of appendages;

<the coloring is lively, well outlined by the substrate, as if to warn the possible aggressor of the charge stinging of their appendages, whatever they are.
